The Establishment of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy
Department Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University
In 1979, Anaesthesia was one of the major of the
Surgical Department in the Udayana University/Sanglah Hospital Faculty of
Medicine. At that time Anaesthesia practices were carried out by trained
nurses. In 1980, it was established as an Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy
Laboratory in Udayana University/Sanglah Hospital Faculty of Medicine, led by
dr. Wayan Sukra, Sp.An. (anaesthesiologist), after he completed his residency
at Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FK UI). There upon, the management
of Udayana University Medical Faculty medical students in Anaesthesiology
department and anaesthesia services at Sanglah Hospital was managed
independently.
In 1985 and 1986, there were 2 (two) additional
anaesthesiologist, then until 1990, 2 (two) anaesthesiologist joined, bringing
the total number of 5 (five) anaesthesiologist. Then in 2002 the number of
anaesthesiologist became 9 (nine) people, thereafter, until 2004 the number of
anaesthesiologist became 14 (fourteen) people.
In 1991, along with the beginning of the
operation of the Emergency Room (ER), the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) service was
started. In July 2002, the preliminary education for the Specialist Education
Program-1 (PPDS-1) in Anaesthesiology and Reanimation Department started to be
carried out. PPDS-1 students graduated from the Anaesthesiology and Intensive
Therapy Department of FK UI acted as mentor or "founding fathers".
In 2006 a visitation was held by the Indonesian Collegium
of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation and was declared eligible to conduct
independent education, which was declared by an Operational Decree (SK) from
DIKTI with decree number 3745/D/T/2006 dated on September 28th 2006 and valid until September 28th 2008. Operations Permit extended by decree number 1591/D/T/KN/2009
dated March 25th 2009 and valid until March 25th 2012 and were extended again with decree number
12430/D/T/KN/2012, valid until March 25th 2015. Furthermore, the extension of the study program's
operational permit is based on data entry in the Pangkalan Data Perguruan Tinggi (PDPT).
